Abdulhay Saloojee

We pay tribute to the life and contribution of Dr. Abdulhay Saloojee who passed away at the age of 82 in London on 3 April. While a student in medicine at the University of Witwatersrand, Abdulhay joined the Progressive Forum, an affiliate of the Unity Movement of South Africa. He also became a member of  the Society of Young Africa  and then joined Apdusa shortly after it was established in 1961. He married Edna Wilcox, herself an active member of the Unity Movement.   In  the mid sixties she was served with a second banning order aimed at halting   her political activities and which severely restricted her movements. The couple then reluctantly decided to go into exile an d settled in London. Throughout the ensuing period Abdulhay remained loyal to the Unity Movement and displayed a keen interest in developments in South Africa until the time of his death. We remember a stalwart who made a contribution to the struggle, which will be remembered by this and future generations.
